Director Bio

Alvin Laguerre is a Haitian‑born filmmaker. He immigrated to the United States in 2009 as a teenager, where he learned English through music and began developing his creative practice.

In 2010, his family narrowly escaped the earthquake in Haiti. Years later, immigration protections were revoked, forcing Alvin’s parents and brothers to leave the country while he remained. This separation is not a memory but a present condition, and it shapes how he understands survival, authority, and family.

Trained as an architect, Alvin approaches filmmaking with restraint, using space and sound to shape emotional pressure rather than spectacle. His work focuses on how institutions ask people to comply, and what it costs to remain visible within them.

These concerns converge in The Uniform, a feature film drawn directly from his lived experience of assimilation and enforced silence. Alvin’s work is grounded in reality, disciplined in form, and centered on the refusal to disappear quietly.
